Nominate a student for a Newman Civic Fellowship
The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. Students may apply or be nominated until January 11, 2019.
The fellowship, named for Campus Compact founder Frank Newman, provides training and resources that nurture students’ assets and passions to help them develop strategies to achieve social change. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides learning opportunities focused on the skills fellows need in order to serve as effective agents of change in addressing public problems and building equitable communities.
Nominees for this fellowship must:
* engage in collaborative action with others from campus or surrounding communities in order to create long-term social change
* take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization
* demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement
* have at least one year of their education remaining (undergraduate or graduate; either at their current institution or at a different one)
The Newman Civic Fellowship includes a variety of program components, including:
* national conference of Newman Civic Fellows
* regional and state gatherings of Newman Civic Fellows
* virtual event series focused on skill development and professional learning
opportunities to submit conference proposals to present at Campus Compact affiliated conferences
* local mentor
In addition to these program components, Newman Civic Fellows also receive:
*national recognition through Campus Compact website and media
*special scholarship opportunities from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute to participate in their Leadership and the American Presidency program
* opportunity to apply for Newman’s Own Foundation Fellowship
Nominations will be accepted until 4 pm on Friday, January 11, 2019. Students may self-nominate or be nominated by a College faculty member, staff member, or department. If a student is being nominated by a department, the student will need to provide the Personal Statement.
Completed nomination forms will include:
* Résumé highlighting work in the community
* 1–2 letters of recommendation
* Candidate Personal Statement (200 word maximum) that includes their approach to addressing the root causes of social issues and their potential for developing innovative and collaborative strategies to tackle public problems.
