Teaching and Learning Day: January 23, 2019
Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. All sessions will be held in Cooper Hall.
Cell phones and other forms of technology can erode students’ ability to pay attention in class and concentrate for extended periods of time. In his keynote address, James M. Lang will provide strategies for addressing this problem. Dr. Lang will also give workshops on Motivating Students and Increasing Retention of Course Concepts.
Brockport faculty and staff will offer workshops on Preparing Students for High Stakes Testing, Misconceptions about Trigger Warnings, Assisting Student Athletes, and Discussing Diversity.
Dr. Lang is a Professor of English and the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Assumption College in Worcester, MA. He is the author of five books, the most recent of which are Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning (Jossey-Bass, 2016) and Cheating Lessons: Learning from Academic Dishonesty (Harvard University Press, 2013).
