The Director of Institutional Effectiveness provides leadership and performs all necessary functions related to the collection, interpretation, and use of institutional data for planning, assessment, and decision making. The position facilitates access to information maintained in the College's administrative and student information systems to support College operations and monitors key institutional indicators, ensuring the integrity of data/information released in reports or studies, and provides data analysis, reporting, or research as needed to support institutional objectives.
The Director will develop, facilitate, and implement assessment plans to support student learning, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness. Data will be used to support the College’s efforts in strategic planning, enrollment management, institutional effectiveness, campus climate, alumni success, and student satisfaction. Additionally, the Director will coordinate the collection of data for statutory requirements which documents the College’s progress in meeting state, federal, and accrediting agencies' accountability standards. The position serves as a resource to administrators, faculty, and staff requiring research assistance for projects, programs, grants, and institutional reports.
• Planning and Management. Support campus planning, management, and decision-making by providing relevant information in a timely fashion to College leadership
o Support enrollment management and planning by creating and maintaining enrollment forecast models as needed.
o Conduct analysis and projections/forecasts for the campus as needed to model effects of expected changes in campus, state, and national priorities.
o Through regular environmental scanning and networking, maintain awareness of federal and state discussions that may affect the ability of the College to remain competitive.
o Provide proactive communication of key institutional planning data and survey results to the campus community.
o Represents the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis and the Office of Assessment at appropriate governance and committee meetings, including Joint Planning and Budget.
o Coordinate reporting to SUNY for accountability reports and other academic and student success initiatives.
o Interact frequently with Vice Presidents, Deans and Directors so as to anticipate and answer questions of importance to their areas of responsibility.
• Data Mining, Research, and Analysis. Coordinate and meet internal needs for institutional data mining, research, analysis, and interpretation, including:
o Peer comparison studies (e.g., faculty workload)
o Strategic planning support
o Enrollment management
o Campus ad hoc data requests
o Support for institutional policy analysis
o Assessment of student learning
o Academic program review
• Accountability and Accreditation. Coordinate institutional accreditation and accountability processes, including communication with and response to regional accreditors, academic program review, and College-level assessment initiatives. Serves as an institution-wide resource in developing models for institutional and program-level assessment. Provide expertise in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining a systematic and sustainable assessment process and systems for assessing administrative goals at all levels across the College. Serve as liaison to external entities for accountability and reporting purposes, including:
o SUNY System Central Data Request
o IPEDS Institutional Keyholder
o Middle States Commission on Higher Education Accreditation
o External surveys including U.S. News and World Report and Princeton Review
• Coordination and Supervision. Supervise staff within the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis and the Office of Assessment. Develop and manage the budgets for the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis and the Office of Assessment. Coordinate professional development for staff within the Offices to remain current with new developments in the field of institutional research and higher education.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization field; program evaluation and/or assessment experience a plus
• Demonstrated experience with collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data for data-informed decision-making
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated experience with presenting information to diverse internal and external audiences
• Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively as a member of a results-oriented team
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, ongoing processes where accuracy and timeliness are essential with minimal supervision
• Experience in higher education administration
• Familiarity with Middle States Accreditation Standards
• Experience with Ellucian Banner
• Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
• Experience with Argos Enterprise Reporting Solution
The Office of Institutional Research & Analysis collects, organizes, analyzes, and reports information to effectively meet the information and planning needs of a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to the College.
The Office of Accountability and Assessment supports and sustains the continuous improvement of the institution by assisting all College units in the development and implementation of assessment plans and methodologies.
