Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP).

Brockport IT has enabled Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) for all Office 365 accounts. Office 365 ATP offers improved spam and malicious software protection for your email account by scanning and testing all attachments for unsafe behavior and malicious code (malware). Office 365 ATP also checks each message for links that might take you to a phishing or counterfeit site or web portal.

Safe Links

When a message contains a link in text, or clickable image, the system will automatically redirect the link through a link checking system to determine its safety. The system is designed to keep outsiders, outside; and your computers, and information safe and secure.

When you click on a link, you may notice it contains "safelinks.protection.outlook.com" near the beginning of the link. If the link is safe, it will open your link destination. If the link is determined to not be safe you will be shown a warning page. To see examples of the warning pages please follow this link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/securitycompliance/atp-safe-links-warning-pages

Safe Attachments

When a message has an attachment(s), the message will be delivered, and Office 365 ATP will begin scanning the attachment(s). You can read the body of the message immediately, but the attachment won't be available until the safety scan is complete. During this time, you may see the attachment listed as “ATP Scan in Progress”. Scan time depends on the size of the attachment. The larger the attachment, the longer the wait time.

If the system scan is good, the attachment will become immediately available. If the attachment has a problem and fails the scan, Office 365 ATP will filter out the attachment.
