Brockport Debate Society's Speech Competition

April 18, 2020 9:00 am–2:00 pm

The Brockport Debate Society invites students to participate in a public speaking competition on April 18, 2020, on the main Brockport campus. All students welcome! First, second, and third place will win gift cards, debate swag, and trophies.

The BDS Speech Competition ask students to prepare and present a four-minute persuasive speech over a community, regional, national, or international concern. In their speech, students will identify a relevant concern or issue as well as offer an argument for its support, rejection, and/or an alternative way of looking at the topic. Students will present their speech and be evaluated by Brockport faculty members in the Department of Communication. The top speakers qualify for the final round of competition with first, second, and third place awarded gift cards, debate swag, and trophies.

Registration closes on April 1, 2020 at 5 pm. Once you've registered you will be sent a packet of information including rules and policies, important dates, schedule, and tips for preparing your speech. That document is also included in this post for more information.

All undergraduate students currently enrolled are eligible to participate and compete.
