Submitting Community Service Hours
Do you know of a student(s) engaging in community service? Encourage them to track their community service hours through SERVE(serve.brockport.edu).
As a College dedicated to engaging with its community, it is important for us to know how this is happening. Our students do a great deal of this work in our community and I want to make sure they receive the necessary recognition. Volunteering and registering their hours is a win-win for everyone involved.
Some reasons to register their hours:
1. Students are eligible for college-wide and national service awards. At the end of the spring semester, Community Development hosts our annual Leadership Awards ceremony. If a student meets the requirements, they can receive an award.
2. SERVE allow them to review the impact they have on the community. Students will have the total number of hours they have volunteered and the monetary impact. These can be useful talking points when they are applying to jobs, internships, and grad school.
3. Lastly, the College can continue to foster those relationships for future partnerships.
To register their hours, students will want to go to serve.brockport.edu. If they have completed any community service in the summer of 2019, fall 2019, or while over break, I strongly encourage them to register them on SERVE. After logging in, they will click on the “Track Service Hours” tab on the left-hand side, and then '+ Add Hours'. Follow all instructions on the form from there. It’s super easy, and if they have any questions, they should contact Darrell Deas using the information below
