Compensation for Employees who Undergo COVID-19 Quarantine

Governor's Office of Employee Relations has issued guidance on this topic.

The New York State and Monroe County Health Departments are responsible for determining the necessity for quarantine related to COVID-19. The Governor's Office of Employee Relations has issued guidance on how New York State employees who are placed under quarantine should be compensated.

An employee who is placed in mandatory quarantine by New York State or Monroe County health officials will be placed on leave with pay, without charge to accruals, for all workdays within the 14-calendar day period for the quarantine, whether healthy or displaying symptoms.

An employee placed on precautionary quarantine by New York State or Monroe County health officials can perform work from home, in consultation with their supervisor, if they are able to do so. If the employee is unable to work from home, the employee will be placed on leave with pay, without charge to accruals, for all workdays within the 14-calendar day period for the quarantine, whether healthy or displaying symptoms.

Employees are required to provide proper quarantine documentation. Supervisors must communicate all relevant information to Human Resources.
