Sarah Kirkpatrick, a graduate student in the Master of Science in Environmental Science Program, won a $4,000 scholarship from National Garden Clubs. This organization awards scholarships to students majoring in fields of study related to horticulture and the environment.
Judging for this selective scholarship first occurs at the state level, and only one application per state moves on to the national scholarship selection committee. The national committee then makes the final selection.
Sarah is researching restoration techniques for a coastal fen on Lake Ontario degraded by invasive species and shrub encroachment. Her adviser is Dr. Rachel Schultz.
