Camp Abilities Goes Virtual on June 28–July 3!

June 28, 2020

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the graduate students and faculty, Camp Abilities will still be providing children with visual impairments from all over NY state a life changing educational sports experience!

The Camp Abilities program is taking a virtual approach this summer to combat the loss of face-to-face camp and ensure the sports and physical activity experience of the campers.

Camp Abilities has been awarded funds from a number of foundations that will cover the costs of equipment for things such as bell basketballs, bell soccer balls, goalballs, jump ropes, guide wires, shot puts, discus, a soccer trainer belt, beach balls, yoga mast, tethers, water bottles, and more! Each camp participant received a gym bag to put all of their equipment in. During the upcoming virtual week of Camp Abilities, campers and their parents will learn from sport specialists, group leaders, coaches, and Paralympic speakers.

Virtual camp will include participatory sports activities via Zoom and a "Care to Share" segment. Camp Abilities' goal this year is to help the participants kick off their summer with an active week and the physical activities they learn can be done tall year long.
