Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Students is Here

Starting Monday, August 3, IT will be turning on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), for incoming students, upperclassmen were enrolled earlier this summer.

Starting Monday, August 3, IT will be turning on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), for students. This means students will be required to use a second factor of authentication when logging into their account when MFA is turned on. MFA registration began for students earlier this summer and set up their second factor of authentication during that process. Students who have not yet registered will be required to register and set up a second factor of authentication when they log in. If your department has any documentation that is distributed to students about accessing their accounts, please make sure it is updated. Help is available to update this documentation by placing an “I Need Help” ticket containing a copy of the document that needs updates in the IT Service Desk Portal.

As faculty and staff, you can pre-register for MFA using the Register for MFA link below. It is strongly recommended to register at least two methods of authentication to have a backup.

Brockport IT’s recommended second factor method is push notifications. A push notification is a message that pops up on your mobile device (where the authenticator app is installed). Once set up, you can log into your account by entering your username and password then approving the notification on your mobile device. Push notifications can be set up by following the instructions in the "Push Notification Instructions" link below.
