Electric shutdowns scheduled during holiday break
Facilities and Planning alerts the College community that two electric shutdowns are planned during the 12/18 through 12/29 two-week holiday break.
On Thursday evening 12/21 the electric system to the Brown Building only will be turned off at approximately 6 pm. That evening, the obsolete/defunct automatic transfer switch for the emergency backup generator system will be removed and replaced with a new one. We anticipate that power to the building will be off for a maximum of 12 hours. Installation of the new switch and other electric work should be complete and building power restored no later than 6 am Friday morning 12/22. If you work in Brown, please turn off all sensitive electric equipment, such as your computer, by Thursday afternoon 12/21.
Commencing Wednesday morning 12/27 at approximately 7 am, the 13,000-volt primary electric power distribution system to the entire south campus will be shut down. This will disable power to Allen, Drake, Tuttle North, Tuttle South, Tuttle Annex, Liberal Arts, Cooper, SERC, and the Townhomes. (The Welcome Center will have power; it is on a separate system.) Temporary generators will be installed at Cooper (for Day Care) and at the Ice Arena to maintain operations. Some limited backup power and heat will be available at Allen second floor. The Tuttle North Data Center has its own back generator (installed a year ago), as does Tuttle South. Life safety systems will be maintained at all buildings by their own small emergency generators. Momentary power interruptions can be anticipated as power is transferred to generators. This critical high voltage work is being done to accommodate the installation of primary electric power for the new residence hall. The power is predicted to be off for about 36 hours; it will be well into Thursday evening 12/28 before permanent power is restored to all south campus buildings. Again, there will be momentary power interruptions at Cooper, the Ice Arena, and Tuttle South as generators are disconnected. If your office is in any of the above south campus buildings, please turn off all sensitive electric powered equipment, such as your computer, at the end of the day Tuesday 12/26.
We apologize for the inconveniences to faculty, staff, students, and visitors caused by this work. Thank you for your patience as we “Build a Better Brockport”. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our Facilities and Planning Service Center at 395-2408.
