Department of Educational Administration Faculty Publish Book Chapter
In this chapter, Donnelly & Linn (2018) describe their collaboration to redesign the EDA program in order to provide more meaningful and relevant learning experiences for their students. In 2014, Donnelly & Linn developed the Model of Metacognitive Professional Learning, which serves as the foundation for their ongoing work. Specifically, redefining the EDA department's vision to prepare metacognitive educational leaders, the Department of Educational Administration is committed to developing educational leaders who can build relationships and who are reflective decision makers, problem solvers, and risk takers who are prepared to lead in today’s schools. Donnelly & Linn ground their work in current research from leading global educators as well as the shifting landscape of American education, providing a rationale for the need for such programmatic transformation. This chapter describes their research base and rationale and provides specific examples of changes to learning tasks, course design, and overall program design.
