Calling all dancers and choreographers!!

Welcome back, everyone! I hope everyone is feeling rejuvenated and raring to go after the holiday break. Brace yourself for a whirlwind of exciting information, and remember to read the following commitments carefully.

The dance department will be holding Sankofa auditions January 31 for ANYONE who would like to participate in the crafting of new choreography! We are embarking on a new process, which aims to include any and all movement celebrating the traditional and contemporary dance forms within the African Diaspora. Tell your friends around campus to get involved and spread the word to dance clubs! If you have a dance you would like to create or be part of, join us!

What you need to know:

Auditions will be held in the Strasser Studio of Hartwell Hall on January 31 from 6:30 – 8 pm.

The day of the audition, you will learn a piece of choreography from a Sankofa guest artist (who will also be selecting dancers for their own work).

“Sankofa is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana. The literal translation of the word is ‘it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.’ Thus, the Akan believe the past serves as a guide for planning the future. To the Akan, it is this wisdom in learning from the past which ensures a strong future."

Let us celebrate where we have come from through the art of dance as a means to cultivate a brighter future together!
