The Office of Community Development seeks to prepare civic minded leaders who possess the knowledge, skills and values to engage fully in their communities. This position supports that mission by connecting students, faculty and staff to the larger community through service. Supports the Director of Community Development in planning large-scale initiatives and campus-wide events while also promoting ongoing opportunities to engage with community partners. The position assists with the college’s strategic goal of becoming a college engaged with its community by fostering relationships and maintaining detailed information and records regarding the college’s involvement with area partners.
The Office of Community Development at The College at Brockport is seeking applicants for the position of Coordinator of Service and Community Building. This position supports the mission of Community Development to prepare civic minded leaders who possess the knowledge, skills and values to engage fully in their communities. In conjunction with the Director of Community Development, this position is responsible for coordinating service programs that strengthen the surrounding community and promote the engagement of Brockport faculty, staff and students. This position directly plans and implements community service initiatives including Saturday of Service, Alternative Spring Break, Seasons of Gratitude and monthly Eagle Service Days. The position also coordinates the Gold Leadership Certificate as part of the Leadership Development Program. The position represents the college within the community by serving on committees and supporting the Rochester Regional Network and Rochester Youth Year, Americorps/VISTA programs. Finally, this position collaborates with campus and community partners and uses appropriate technologies to develop and maintain detailed records regarding the college’s community service activities.

Minimum Salary: $39,403
Essential Functions: (List fundamental duties the incumbent performs; the “must haves” of the position and the approximate percentage of time spent.)
50% Coordinate campus-wide community service opportunities throughout the year including but not limited to: Fall and Spring Saturdays of Service, Alternative Breaks, Seasons of Gratitude, Trash to Treasure and monthly Eagle Service Days. Evaluate and assess these programs to ensure student learning and essential outcomes are met.
15% Co-coordinate the Gold Leadership Certificate by engaging community partners and advising student groups through the creation of service projects
15% Communicate and build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members to enhance a culture of service at the college.
10% Utilize systems and technology to maintain detailed records regarding the college’s community service activities
5% Implement college recognition related to community service including the President’s Volunteer Service Award and the President’s Honor Roll
5% Represent the department and the college on various campus-wide and community committees including participation in the Rochester Regional Network and Rochester Youth Year.
Non-Essential Functions: (List routine duties that must be performed coincidentally with the essential functions and approximate percentage of time spent.)
Coordinate department presence at recruitment and outreach activities
Attend college-wide events
Balance a budget for areas of responsibility
Provide appropriate supervision and mentoring of student employees
Evening and Weekend Duties as Needed
Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
Experience in coordinating community service opportunities obtained through professional or volunteer experience
Experience working in collaborative groups or committees to accomplish shared goals
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to create and maintain an inclusive environment where all individuals feel welcome
Able and willing to complete the NYS License Event Notification System (LENS) check review process and college’s Van Safety-Training Course to operate a college van
Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Education, Public Administration or a related area from an accredited US Dept of Education or internationally recognized institution
Experience developing and assessing student learning and programmatic outcomes obtained through coursework or professional experience
Experience attending, planning or facilitating alternative break trips
Experience with student leadership development
Experience planning large-scale programming for more than 1000 participants
