Certification Officer Employment Opportunity
Provides college-wide leadership in matters related to professional education programs and New York State certification procedures.
Serves as consultant and resource person to College officials, department chairpersons, and faculty advisors relative to certification issues.
Serves as liaison to New York State Education Department (NYSED) representative and BOCES Teacher Certification Offices on certification issues.
Advises students and prospective students about certification requirements and procedures.
Processes certification applications for eligible candidates.
Assists with certification test scores reporting.
Maintains accurate records and prepares institutional reports on an as-needed basis.
Interprets NYSED policy and communicates that policy to students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Communicates NYS teacher and educational administration testing requirements to students, alumni, faculty and staff. When changes in policy and testing requirements are made by NYSED, interprets and communicates those changes to students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Frequently presents certification requirements and process to students (either in group settings or in one-on-one meetings), and shares the details of those requirements with students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Hosts certification workshops for graduating students to provide (1) necessary information they will need in order to submit the Certification Recommendation Form to the Certification Office, and (2) information and orientation to NYSED’s TEACH Online Application process.
Answers heavy volume of phone calls and e-mail inquiries from students and alumni concerning certification processes, including state requirements for additional and continuing certification and professional development.
Cohesively and professionally presents to various constituents such as Deans, Chairs, faculty, students, and various committees.
Committee work for Professional Education Unit as appropriate and needed. Committee work includes, but is not limited to: Professional Education Council (PEC); Effective Best Practices Committee (EBP); PEU Assessment Committee; and the PEU Advisory Board.
Earned bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, or Business from an accredited US Department of Education or internationally recognized institution. Other related degrees will be considered.
Significant full-time professional experience including Office Technology operations.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work with an array of constituents.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Earned master’s degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Communications, Business, or Public Administration from an accredited US Department of Education or internationally recognized institution. Other related degrees will be considered.
Experience dealing with state teacher certification regulations.
Experience with Banner or system-wide computer management programs.
Experience working in higher education.
Teacher certification and public school experience.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
