Would you like to bring real-world international perspectives and experiences to your classroom?
The SUNY Center for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) has developed a model for the creation of co-equal team-taught learning environments where faculty from two cultures work together to develop a shared syllabus, emphasizing experiential and collaborative student learning. Such collaborations range from 4 to 12 weeks and give new contextual meaning to the ideas and texts, while providing students new venues to develop cross-cultural awareness. Classes may be fully online or, more often, offered in blended formats with face-to-face sessions taking place at both schools, while collaborative student work takes place online.
COIL Center has created a Professional Development Program to assist professors in creating COIL courses or modules. The first step in that program is a fully online 4-week COIL Course Orientation (CCO) which is offered quarterly. The June 2018 CCO starts on June 4, 2018 and will conclude on June 30, 2018. The CCO is a prerequisite for those wishing to participate in the COIL Academy for Course Development.
More details on the CCO can be found in the attached flyer. In summary, the CCO includes participants from around the world and will help prepare you and others in your cohort to embark on finding and creating an international partnership with which to create a COIL course or module. The CCO is a fully on-line course facilitated by SUNY COIL Center staff and it typically requires about 3-4 hours per week.
There is no registration fee for CCO as it is part of our campus membership in the COIL Center’s SUNY and Global Partner Network. If you are interested to participate in the CCO you can register at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ccoJune2018. The registration deadline is May 25, 2018.
The registration survey will also ask you about your teaching and your aspirations for partnering with an international colleague.
If you have any questions about COIL or the COIL Course Orientation, please feel free to contact email@example.com. Also, please let us know if you have registered or plan on registering for the CCO.
