Brockport College-Community Orchestra and Concert Band to Play Concert on November 15
The Brockport College-Community Orchestra, housed in the Department of Theatre and Music Studies at The College at Brockport, will be giving a concert on Thursday, November 15, at 7:30 pm in the Seymour College Union Ballroom, Residence Drive, on the Brockport campus. Tickets, which cost $5, will be available at the door.
The ensemble, which includes students and their music-loving neighbors from the Village of Brockport, is tackling “more and more difficult” works this year, according to music director and faculty member Scott Horsington. This fall, the Orchestra will be playing Mozart’s “Impresario Overture,” Chabrier’s “Habanera,” as well as selections from the “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1” by Edvard Grieg. The Orchestra will turn its attention to more contemporary classical fare with a performance of “Points of Departure” by Robert Moran.
Last season, Horsington decided to use some of his orchestra musicians in the creation of the Brockport Concert Band. The Band returns on the 15th, when they will be playing works by John Philip Sousa, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Frank Ticheli, and Johnnie Vinson.
The Orchestra and Band are just two aspects of the performance classes offered by the department. The Winter Ensembles Concert will be presented on Wednesday, December 5, in the Seymour College Union Gallery.
If you are interested in sharing your musical talents with these, or any other of the department’s ensembles, contact Horsington at email@example.com, or at (585) 395-2691.
