LMHC, Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Darlene Schmitt is the Associate Director of the Counseling Center and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who began working at The College at Brockport in 2003. Prior to working at the College, she worked in a variety of mental health settings, including intensive outpatient substance abuse programs, criminal justice diversion programs, and community mental health and primary care settings, and she had a private practice. Ms. Schmitt earned a MSEd in Counselor Education from The College at Brockport, and was fortunate enough to be afforded the opportunity to be an adjunct for the Department several years ago. Clinically, she is a generalist who enjoys working with a diverse student population, and her particular areas of professional interest include utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to address issues related to anxiety and depression. However, Ms. Schmitt is passionate about working with all students, and recognizes that students can present with concerns ranging from adjusting to college all the way through to complex, chronic mental health issues. When not at work, Darlene enjoys being a mom to three teenagers.
