The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence acknowledges students who have achieved excellence both inside and outside of the classroom. Each year, the College seeks nominations of students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for their integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include: leadership, community service, arts (creative or performing), athletics, and/or career achievement. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the University.


Only students graduating between June 2018 and May 2019 will be considered. Only information included in the submission will be considered. Only awards received while at the current institution are applicable. (Awards from another college or high school may not be included.)

Selection Process

Nominations will be accepted until 4 pm on Friday, January 25, 2019. Students may self-nominate or be nominated by a College department or office. If a student is being nominated by a department, it is highly recommended that the student be included in the process to ensure that all areas of accomplishment are included.

Nomination packets include the following:

  • Completed Nomination Form that details the student's accomplishments in any of the following areas:
    • Academics
    • Leadership
    • Campus Involvement
    • Community Service
    • Arts (visual, performing and written)
    • Athletics
    • Career 
    • Other
  • 2-3 Letters of Recommendation
  • Resume – not to exceed 2 pages (optional)

The complete packet of materials must be submitted using the Online Nomination Form. If preferred, letters of recommendation may be submitted by the author directly to, but must be received by 4pm on Friday, January 25 in order to be included in the nominee's materials.

A campus selection committee comprised of faculty, staff, and one first-year student will review the nominations and select the candidates to recommend for the president’s consideration and approval.

Upon approval from the president, the nominees are submitted to SUNY for final approval. If chosen, each recipient will receive notification from SUNY directly. On or before February 28, a letter will be sent to each award recipient and a list of recipients will be sent to the campus president.


Recipients will be recognized at three distinct ceremonies:

  • SUNY Awards Ceremony: April 24 in Albany, NY
  • Brockport’s Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony: Friday, April 26, 2019
  • Brockport’s Annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony: Monday, April 29, 2019
