SUNY Student Leadership Academy (SLA) Fall 2020

The Student Leadership Academy (SLA) will prepare the next generation of civically-engaged leaders by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to successfully navigate and improve an increasing diverse and fractured community. This Academy, designed and delivered by professionals from across SUNY, leverages the collective assets of the system to provide a diverse and prestigious learning and networking opportunity for SUNY students. It will also act as a bridge between students and their career paths, as participants will graduate being able to articulate their personal and professional story to future hiring managers and graduate program directors.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the originally planned Summer, 3-Day in-person SUNY SLA, will now be held virtually in Fall 2020. Programs will be held on various Fridays and Mondays from 12:00 -2:00 p.m., utilizing the following learning modalities: Seminar Series, Leader Speaker Series, Mentoring, Social Media Campaign, Alumni, and Cohort Connection opportunities.

Fall Seminar Series schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, September 18: Meet and Greet/Set Yourself Up for Success in College
  • Friday, September 25: Know Yourself to Lead Others
  • Friday, October 2: The Power of Mentoring
  • Monday, October 26: Mentoring check-in
  • Friday, November 13: Articulate your Story to Open the Door to Your Future
  • Friday, November 20: Working with Diverse Teams: Cultural Intelligence to Include Others
  • Friday, December 4: Program Reflections and Graduation

Please note: Eligible students (undergraduate and graduate) will need to be available for at least 6 of the 7 offered sessions. In order to maintain an attendance record and ensure students are engaged in the sessions, a brief survey will be sent following each session.

Eligibility: Must be enrolled full-time or part-time, or have graduated within six months of May 2020
Deadline to submit Application: August 20, 2020 by 5 p.m..

A student can be nominated by faculty, staff or through self-nomination. The form must be complete including a resume and letter of recommendation uploaded in the form to be considered for review by the selection committee.
