Academic Exploration LLC Welcome and Intro to Career Services (First-year students only)
Friday, August 25, 2017 • 1:45 – 3 pm • Liberal Arts Building, Room 106A
Career Services will provide a brief overview of the services provided by our office. This session will include a couple of short, interactive exercises that introduce the concept of career exploration and end with a tour of the Career Services office in Rakov 101. Students will be encouraged to complete Sokanu or MyPlan, career assessments, as preparation for future sessions.
What Can I Do With This Major?

Interactive exercises will help students connect with their interests, connect their interests to majors, and connect their interests to careers. Students will leave this session with exploration resources. The connection between majors and careers will be discussed through a major vs. career matching exercise. A group discussion will help students process the connection between majors and careers.
Majors and Minors Fair
Wednesday, October 25, 2017 • Noon – 2 pm • Seymour College Union Ballroom
The Majors and Minors Fair is a resource fair for students to meet with faculty and peers from various departments, learn about the academic programs available at Brockport, and ask questions about degree requirements, careers, and more.
Envision Your Future – Dream Board Program
Wednesday, November 29, 2017 • 7:30 – 9:30 pm • Thompson Game Room
Self-reflection is an important step of the career exploration and planning process. During this lowkey session, students will be asked to create a dream board for their future using magazine clippings and various art supplies while a career-themed movie plays in the background. Career counselors will be available to help students reflect on their creations.
Gaining Experience Through Exploration – Résumé Building for First-Year Students

Sometimes students need to try new things to find the career or major that’s right for them. In this program, students will participate in an interactive, résumé-building practice exercise and learn the value campus opportunities and volunteer work can add to their résumés. This exercise will help students reflect on takeaways from different experiences and how to connect activities they enjoy to related careers.
Jobs and Internships Fair – Behind-the-Scenes Tour
Wednesday, March 7, 2018 • Noon – 4 pm • The SERC
The annual Jobs and Internships Fair will be held on March 7. Career Services provides multiple behind-the-scenes tours for first- and second-year students to learn more about navigating a job fair and the types of jobs available at various companies. Learning about job opportunities and employer expectations can assist with the career planning process.
