>>Career Services recently held a site visit to the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, NY, providing students the chance to explore the careers of employees who work for the Buffalo Sabres enterprise. Twenty-three students majoring in athletic training, business administration, communication, computer information systems, exercise science, journalism and broadcasting, and sport management connected with Gregg Pastore ’99, director of digital and social strategy at Pegula Sports and Entertainment, while on the trip. Pastore and his colleagues provided insight into their work, as well as advice to students interested in pursuing similar fields. This was the second site visit hosted by Pastore, who has also taught students about his digital and social strategy work for the Buffalo Bills.

>>Acclaimed screenwriter and film professor Stu Krieger ’73 recently published That One Cigarette, an alternate-history novel which chronicles the journeys of four distant families and their fortuitously intertwined lives over the course of almost 50 years. It tells the story of how one character’s decision to quit smoking prevents the assassination of John F. Kennedy, initiating a wave of alterations to the course of history as we know it. Krieger spent the past seven years writing the novel, and introduced his idea to crowdfund it after his TEDx talk last year. The novel surpassed its preorder target of 250 copies by 26% on November 1. Stay up-to-date with publishing progress through the That One Cigarette Facebook page, and enjoy the first three chapters before the book is available next spring or early summer. This is Krieger’s first novel. He is best known for his more than 25 movie credits, including the The Land Before Time and ten Disney Channel original movies.

Visit http://alumni.brockport.edu/awards to nominate a deserving candidate, and to view video highlights of 2016 award winners. Alumni recipients will be selected for four awards, based on criteria such as community service and professional achievement. >>Since the start of the academic year, the Division of Advancement has dedicated three recently planted campus trees to honorable members of the College community: Michael Cavalcanti ’64, Associate Professor Emeritus Dr. Sriram Bakshi, and Frank Sacheli ’45. Three ceremonies over the course of two months united hundreds of Brockport alumni, friends, and community members in celebration of the guests of honor. On behalf of the Village Board and set forth in a Village proclamation, Brockport Mayor Margaret B. Blackman proclaimed the day of Frank Sacheli’s dedication, October 11, 2016, as Frank Sacheli Day in the Village of Brockport. The trees, accompanied by plaques, will serve as growing reminders of the distinguished honorees’ years of dedication, service, and philanthropy toward the College and the Brockport community.
