Dynamic Alumni to Deliver Brockport Commencement Addresses

Michael Doyle and Gary Mervis to speak at undergraduate and graduate ceremonies, respectively.

Two of The College at Brockport’s finest alumni will deliver words of wisdom to the Class of 2019 during the College’s Commencement ceremonies May 17-18.

Michael Doyle

Michael Doyle ’80 will deliver the Undergraduate Commencement addresses in two separate ceremonies on May 18. Doyle is the regional president and president of sales operations at Entercom, a leading media and entertainment company that reaches more than 170 million consumers each month across multiple platforms. He leads the operations and management of various radio markets across the region. Radio Ink has twice recognized Doyle as one of the best managers in radio. He is also the chairman of the College at Brockport Foundation.

The Undergraduate Morning Ceremony takes place at 9:30 am in the SERC Field House. It recognizes graduates from the School of Education, Health and Human Services. The Undergraduate Afternoon Ceremony honors graduates from the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Business and Management at 2 pm in the SERC Field House.

Bernice Skirboll

Brockport alumna Bernice Skirboll ’72 will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during the afternoon ceremony. Skirboll is the founder and former executive director/president of Compeer, Inc, an international non-profit organization that seeks to help people overcome the effects of mental illness through the power of friendship. Compeer has become a national model in dealing with mental health issues, having been replicated throughout New York State, the United States, and around the globe.

Gary Mervis ’71 will deliver the Graduate Commencement address at 5 pm on May 17 in the SERC Field House. Mervis will also receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. Mervis is the chairman and founder of Camp Good Days and Special Times, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults, and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.

Gary Mervis

The camp provides residential camping programs and year-round recreational and support activities in the areas around Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Ithaca.

“We have selected three outstanding representatives of our distinguished alumni community to contribute to our Commencement ceremonies,” said Brockport President Heidi Macpherson. “These individuals have all had enormously successful careers while making a difference in their communities. They are excellent role models for the Class of 2019, and we hope they inspire our students to follow in their footsteps, in building meaningful lives and vibrant communities.”
