To Members of The College at Brockport Community:

Empowerment and Innovation Act:

SUNY Chancellor Zimpher's testimony
before NYS lawmakers

More than a month after it was announced, The Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act continues to generate much discussion and debate. Our SUNY leadership is also addressing any questions head-on, clarifying policies issues relative to tuition, and working diligently to educate members of the New York State Legislature.

As I underscored in my message to our academic community on January 15th, this comprehensive bill would offer tremendous and long awaited flexibility for our SUNY campuses, especially related to a fair and equitable tuition policy. These sweeping changes would end over-regulation and enable greater opportunities for public-private partnerships and entrepreneurial activities to boost our state's economy. In addition, the SUNY Act would streamline the processes for both future construction projects and procurement.

Many of us at the College—including several of our most articulate student leaders— have
met and continue to be in contact with our state legislators to discuss this bill and actively advocate for the Act. I hope you will do the same. As our elected officials continue to receive input from those on all sides of this issue, please know that I deeply appreciate your advocacy for this landmark legislation to help our College for our State University. Thanks!
