PBN

What is it?

  • A Personal Billing Number, PBN, consists of 8-digits and is used to make certain off-campus calls.
  • Students - Please note that on campus, local, and long-distance calls are now free of charge for on-campus students. A PBN is no longer needed for these calls.
  • Students wishing to make international calls should still apply for a PBN.
  • Faculty/Staff - Faculty/Staff members should still use their PBN's for all off-campus personal calls.

Student Terms and Conditions

  • You may provide your own telephones in the residence halls. The College does have telephones for borrowing if needed. Please visit the Tellecommunications office or use the Borrow-a-Phone form to borrow a phone.
  • If a PBN has been lost or stolen, contact the Office of Telecommunications immediately. You will be required to file a police report, and be held responsible for all calls made using a PBN until a report is filed. See the PBN Fraud Policy for full details.
  • No services (telephone or otherwise) are to be billed to campus telephone numbers. This restriction includes, but is not limited to, Collect, Third-party Billed, and 10-10-XXX calls.
  • You will be billed for all physical damage to College provided equipment, including the telephone and cable jack.
  • Bills for telephone services are rendered monthly by the Office of Telecommunications and payment is due by the date specified on the bill.
  • Repairs may take up to 24 hours after notification (business hours only).
  • If a technician determines that the problem was caused by your telephone equipment, telecommunications reserves the right to bill $10.00 for a service visit.
  • Complaints for bill discrepancies must be received within 30 days of the invoice date.

PBN Fraud Policy

Customers are responsible for properly securing their PBN's at all times.

  • Customers are responsible for notifying Telecom immediately if they believe someone is using their PBN. The customer is required to file a written complaint and FERPA release in person at the Telecom office within 30 days of the invoice. (E.g., if the customer believes that calls were illegally made in March which appears on the March 25th invoice, the complaint must be filed by April 24th.) The customer is responsible for any charges against the PBN for time periods not covered by a formal complaint received within the specified time frame.
  • Customers will provide a detailed listing of all calls and charges in question and must agree to a release of all telephone records to University Police and other law enforcement agencies as necessary for investigation.
  • Customers will be assessed a service fee to disconnect the old PBN and activate a new PBN.
  • The customer must also file a crime report in person at the University Police station. The crime report must be filed within five business days of filing the Telecom complaint, or no investigation will take place and the complaint will be voided.
  • Charges for suspicious calls will remain on the customer's account until the investigation is complete.

Holds & Reactivation

A hold may be put on your record for reasons including non-payment. Anytime your receive a "Bursar Hold"; your PBN will be disconnected.
In order to reactivate it, please make the required payment to the Office of Telecommunications and have the hold removed.

Student PBN Guidelines

New and Returning students who would like a PBN to make international calls should use our online form. Be prepared to enter your Banner ID number, your email address, your date of birth, dorm name, room number and the last 4 digits of your campus phone number. Your request should be completed within four business after we receive it. You will receive your PBN via e-mail after your request has been completed.
Returning students no longer need PBN's to make off-campus local and long distance calls. All returning students who would like to make international calls should also fill out our online PBN application form. Students should note that if they perviously had a PBN. It has been disconnected.
