Leave for Blood Donation
Section 202-j of the Labor Law (Chapter 578 of the Laws of 2007), as amended (Chapter 31 of the Laws of 2008), the Commissioner of Labor authorizes the implementation of blood donation leave to employees in New York State.
The leave allowance for employees provides one unpaid leave period per calendar year of three hours during the employee's regular work schedule to donate blood at an off-campus location. Employees are required to give reasonable notice (three working days) of their intent to use this leave time.
The leave allowance for employees provides two paid leave periods per calendar year during the employee's regular work schedule to donate blood at a College blood drive.
When completing time records, employees should report time for this allowance as Non-Chargeable, choose Administrative Leave for the Non-Chargeable Reason and indicate Blood Donation in the Comments section. Documentation indicating that the employees absence was for the purpose of making blood donation must be submitted to the Benefits and Payroll Office.
