Optical Storage Media

  • CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray Disks

Optical Media needs to be shredded to ensure that the College Data on the discs is unrecoverable. LITS technicians have access to industrial grade shredders to accomplish this task. Please contact the Service Desk (see contact info below) and schedule a time for picking up the Optical Media.

Solid State Storage Media

Solid State Storage Media encompasses a large grouping of devices including but not limited to:

  • USB flash drives
  • Secure Digital cards(SD/SDHC/microSD/MiniSD)
  • Memory sticks (used by Sony cameras)
  • Compact Flash cards

There are a variety of methods for sanitizing or disposing of Solid State Media, please contact the Service Desk (see contact info below) and schedule a time for picking up the Solid State Storage Media.

Removable Magnetic Storage

Removable Magnetic Storage devices are now considered legacy types of storage media which should be destroyed and have the data moved to newer more reliable types of storage.

  • Floppy disks
  • Tape Drive Media
  • Zip Disks

Removable Magnetic Storage needs to be demagnetized to ensure that the College Data is unrecoverable. LITS technicians have access to the tools to accomplish this task. Please contact the Service Desk (see contact info below) and schedule a time for picking up the Removable Magnetic Storage.
